Thoroughly Modern Millie.

On Friday 10th March I went to see Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Wycombe Swan Theatre in High Wycombe. The show is currently touring the UK, more information can be found here.

The stage production is based on the film with the same title. It was released in March 1967 starring Julie Andrews as the main character, Millie Dillmount. The story starts in 1922 New York, where Millie has just arrived from Salina, Kansas. Determined to make it in the Big Apple, she adopts the look of a modern flapper girl and sets out to marry a rich eligible bachelor.

The show was a joy to watch from start to finish. The costumes were fantastic, I wanted to wear every single dress I saw on stage. If you like 20s fashion and enjoy a good dance, this is the show for you.  Joanne Clifton plays Millie Dillmount, but unfortunately she was advised by her Doctor not to perform, so I saw Emma Housley in the role. She acted the part beautifully and had a lovely singing voice.

If you want to be transported back to New York in the 20s and dance the night away with the flappers girl, I couldn’t recommend this show enough.
